Elegy for the Living

I wish you were here
to see all the flowers
Those seedlings were planted with love
Watered with all my thoughts of you
Now they’ve grown tall,
blooming vividly
Maybe I’d bring you a bunch
of sweet orange flowers
Is it ironic that I planted marigolds
used to honor the dead?
Is it ironic that love has never felt more alive?
I’m never one to remember faces But I can still see you staring at me Except now it’s like black and white film without color
And I’m stuck here.
The one who hates Fall
The one who hates Winter
wishing that Summer was not the last time
I saw you
What I would give to see you in a winter coat
To see you in any way at all
to just see you
