ART SONG

Marieke was one of the commissioned composers for the Sing Out Strong: Emancipated Voices series with White Snake Projects in Boston. Her song The Day When I Can, based on the text of Chiruza Peter, was premiered in March to raise awareness about the right to vote

A new cycle based on Marieke's own poetry about climate disasters that have affected her and her community, including the South African floods of 2022 and 2023, the 2023 Canadian wildfires and mining induced earthquakes

SONG CYCLE

Marieke's 2021 song cycle "Never Again", based on poetry by Valentine Kizito won the DePaul Concerto Competition and was featured on the Lieder Laboratory podcast. The cycle focuses on themes of war and conflict awareness from an African lens. The orchestral premiere will take place Spring 2024.

INTERDISCIPLINARY WORK

As an Emerging Artist of the Windybrow Arts Center, Marieke created this multimedia composition during the 2021 South African riots as part of the Aluta Continua series honoring Nelson Mandela
