A new cycle based on Marieke's own poetry about climate disasters that have affected her and her community, including the South African floods of 2022 and 2023, the 2023 Canadian wildfires and mining induced earthquakes
NEVER AGAIN (2021)
SONG CYCLE
Marieke's 2021 song cycle "Never Again", based on poetry by Valentine Kizito won the DePaul Concerto Competition and was featured on the Lieder Laboratory podcast. The cycle focuses on themes of war and conflict awareness from an African lens. The orchestral premiere will take place Spring 2024.
